Central Fire Station was opened in 1967, replacing the Mechanic St. Station.

Central currently houses Engine 2, Ladder 1, Rescues 1 and 2, Squad 1, and Forestry 1.  Central is also home to the Department's administrative offices.

The Central District covers the downtown area of Sanford between Route 4 and the Memorial Gym.  It is primarily residential with a downtown business district and a millyard area of former textile mills at it's center clustered around the Mousam River.

Line staffing at Central is 1 Captain (Shift Officer), 3 Firefighters, and 2 Paramedics
